The TPLO saw is a precision compass knife that "draws a circle" on the tibial plateau.

You can imagine: if your dog has an anterior cruciate ligament rupture (CCL), we need to do a TPLO (tibial plateau horizontal osteotomy) to change the angle of the tibial plateau and eliminate the "drawer effect". The core step is to cut a circular bone block (bone plate) on the inner side of the proximal tibia, then rotate it to a new stable angle, and then fix it with a steel plate.

The risk analysis and measurement:

1).The cutting saw blade is not in right position: follow operating manual strictly.

2).Battery lose efficiency: check the battery in time.

3).Battery uncharged: Charge it before operation. 

4).Battery un-full charged: Check the battery before operation.

Note:battery can not be sterilized by high temperature and high pressure.

1): Sterilizing:

Place the hand piece on the stainless steel mesh rack 135℃ high temperature sterilization for 20 minutes. 

2): Cleaning:

The surface of the Hand piece can be cleaned by gauze with water or alcohol,then store it.

1）Achieving a perfect circular osteotomy: This is the basic requirement for TPLO surgery! Because only a perfect circle can obtain the maximum bone contact surface after the pelvis is rotated, which is conducive to rapid healing; only a circle can achieve smooth and unobstructed rotation. Do you want to cut a circle with an ordinary straight saw or a free-hand saw? It is almost impossible. If you cut it crooked, the operation will fail directly!

2）Precise control of the center of rotation (COR): The positioning of the guide determines the position of the center of the circle. This center point (usually located behind the tibial plateau articular surface) directly determines the new angle (TPA) and biomechanical effect of the tibial plateau after surgery. The oscillating saw ensures that the cutting is strictly around this predetermined center of the circle, without any error.

3）Protect key structures

* Patellar tendon: The guide design and correct approach protect the patellar tendon.

* Articular cartilage: Precise radius control (usually slightly smaller than the width of the tibial plateau) ensures that the saw blade will not accidentally cut into the joint cavity** and damage the cartilage.

* Posterior blood vessels and nerves (popliteal vessels, common peroneal nerve): The guide limits the travel of the saw blade, and the surgeon's careful operation (especially when cutting the back) greatly reduces the risk of accidental injury. Hold your breath when cutting the back 1/4!
